Capacity Building

Capacity Building

The success and continued survival of the Nasaru Olosho conservancy is reliant on the skills and collaboration of the neighbouring communities. The transformation of the lives of the Nasaru-Olosho community is at the heart of the conservancy’s main efforts. To accomplish this, the conservancy recognises the importance of collaborating with individuals who possess the necessary skills, competencies, and knowledge in the various aspects of conservation and rehabilitation. In addition, the collaboration of the neighbouring community helps to support the conservancy’s efforts, making it easier to run the conservancy.

The conservancy has established a wide range of capacity building initiatives aimed at supporting the capabilities of the people within the neighbouring communities. These include;

Recruiting, training and equipping community game scouts and key informers who work hand in hand with Kenya wildlife officers to maintain security for wildlife and humanity.
Training the community on new development challenges and strategies to work around the challenges.
Initiation and management of income generating activities for the land owners to further promote their livelihood.
Training on sustainable environmental practices. The conservancy trains the community on the implementation of alternative nature conserving practices and the avoidance of harmful environmental practices such as charcoal burning and sand harvesting.
Provision of training on management and leadership to the conservancy management committees.
