Women Empowerment
Nasaru Olosho has a group of brave bee queens who’ve taken on an economic role that was predominantly done by men.
WWF-Kenya started a number of projects in the Nasaru-Olosho Conservancy to help it reach its goal of creating a healthy landscape that is good for both people and wildlife. One of these projects was giving 1,200 beehives to women’s groups in the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, and Tsavo conservancies and teaching them how to keep bees.
Among the first beneficiaries of the beehives and beekeeping training were members of the Nalepo Women Self-Help Group. The women’s venture into the beekeeping enterprise has received warm support from the community.
