Who We Are

Who we are

Welcome to Nasaru Olosho Conservancy

Nasaru-Olosho Conservancy is in southern Kenya’s Kajiado East Constituency. The wildlife corridor begins in the greater Mara ecosystem and extends to the South-West, the Southern Rift, Amboseli, and Tsavo’s. A significant number of Kenya’s wildlife lives in this ecosystem.

Nasaru means to rescue, to help, and Olosho means community in Maa. It is the name 653 Maasai landowners gave to their conservancy, which aims to protect 168,975 acres (68,382 hectares/684km2) of privately owned agricultural land full of endangered mega-fauna of Africa, such as lion, elephant, and giraffe. This area is the missing piece of Kenya’s Amboseli-Tsavos ecosystem.

Nasaru Olosho aims to establish a governance and management system for the area that will allow people and wildlife to coexist within an integrated working landscape for the protection and strengthening of ecosystem services, facilitation of climate resilience, and delivery of practical and monetary benefits to the community of 15,000 people, in line with Kenya’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Vision
We envision a fully rehabilitated and conducive environment for humanity and wildlife

Mission
We are committed to a sustainable future and to improving the social, economic, and environmental well-being of the community through preservation of God’s natural resources in Kajiado County.

Legal Establishment and Governance of the Conservancy
The Constitution of Nasaru Community Based Organization has been updated through a participatory process involving all the 653 registered land owners to a Conservancy Trust and the Trustees have been registered (Fig 1). Equally, the Conservancy is now formally recognised as a member of the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA), a national umbrella body for all conservancies in Kenya and also as a member of the Amboseli Ecosystem Trust (AET), a regional umbrella for all the conservancies in the Amboseli landscape. Further, Nasaru Olosho is a member of a network body formed at the County level that brings together all conservation agencies operating in Kajiado. The network is registered as Kajiado County Natural Resources Network (KCNRN).

Goal
To create a habitable environment for humanity and wildlife through the rehabilitation and management of Kajiado County’s natural resources.
